Glimmer

A glimmer
flickering angrily before my eyes,
and haunting my dreams of you.
Who is she?
What was she?

She looks at you so intensely...
Tell me why.
You gaze at her so helplessly...
Let me understand why.

I glimpsed streamlines of brine confronting you,
and overheard stifled sobs channeled to you,
breathed weak attempts at seduction.
So good, so kind, so considerate, so careful...
You seemed so torn,
between a desire for me
and a duty to her.

Your arms wrapped lightly around me,
mine tightly around you.
Swaying to and fro in blissful ignorance
of glaring envy around the next couple...
Untangling ourselves, you found yourself
face to face
with a glimmer
flickering angrily before my eyes,
and haunting my dreams of you.
