Dilemmas In Nines

Written June 28, 1999

I'm so drained of all the energy.
Where did I go wrong? Did I misstep?
Have I erred in the length of mileage?
Did I misjudge my heart's endurance?
Perhaps I still am on the right path.
Maybe I have not totally lost.
Hope may be lying around the bend.

A short time ago, I said to Me,
"Can I take these two highways at once?"
I longed to traverse each with spirit.
Splitting up my limbs betwixt the pair.
The fork in the road loomed mysticly,
Both decisions tempting in their way.
"Comfort and a light journey are here!"
Promised One, adding, "Happiness, too!"
"More excitement you will never find,"
Boasted Two, "than on the pleasure route!"
The shoes I wore decided the end.
The soles brought much pain along with holes.
Two exclaimed, "I cannot endure much!"
While One received me and my footwear,
Saying calmly, "It's all or nothing.
I suffer and share all of your pain,
Because I totally accept you."
